Last Tuesday, I was happy to attend the World Down Syndrome Day event in Parliament, along with my constituent Nicola Enoch and her son Tom. I want to congratulate Nicola on all her advocacy work both locally and nationally, especially with her work with the charities The Ups of Downs and Positive about Down syndrome.
I would also like to commend Nicola as Vice Chair of The National Down Syndrome Policy Group and their work with my colleague Dr Liam Fox on passing the Down Syndrome Act, which will require the Secretary of State to publish guidance to public bodies to ensure they are clear on how they should meet the needs of people with Down syndrome. It will set out best practices across health, education, social care, and housing, giving practical advice on how the appropriate steps can be taken to meet the needs of those with Down syndrome when planning, designing, and delivering services.
