This week is Mind Your Head week, an awareness campaign run by the Farm Safety Foundation that brings together over 330 partners from across the UK to encourage those living and working in the sector to look out for each other and look after each other, not just this week but every week.
Last week, I met with Mark Spencer, Minister of State (Minister for Food, Farming and Fisheries), along with George Bostock (NFU), Sarah Batchelor (NFU), Stephanie Berkeley (Farm Safety Foundation) and Andy Eadon about the Farm Safety Foundation’s work on raising awareness of mental health’s importance at Agricultural Colleges across the United Kingdom.
in January 2022, Andy and Lynda Eadon lost their son Len when he took his life. Since then, they have dedicated their life to creating mental health awareness among young people in farming and have created the Five-a-Day Challenge in Len's memory. So far, more than 18,000 of the bright-red Five-a-Day challenge cards have been distributed to markets, young farmers’ clubs and through the NFU Student Farmer magazine.
