It was an honour to nominate Lynda and Andy Eadon to be NFU’s Community Farming Hero, and I was delighted to see them win the award for the West Midlands.
The work that Lynda and Andy are doing around mental health in memory of their son Len Eadon, who took his own life on New Year’s Day 2022 is essential for the farming community. They have accomplished so much in the last ten months to prevent such a thing from happening to other families and have raised over £80,000 for PAPYRUS, FCN and The Farm Safety Foundation. It is particularly poignant that they received this award today on National Stress Awareness Day.
They have organised several events to raise awareness, including a Farming Family Fun Day and a Summer Ball and are making a massive difference to the community. Next year, they hope to host Len’s Light Tractor Relay 2023 from John o’ Groats to Lands’ End. Len’s Light will be a beacon of Hope mounted onto the lead tractor and passed from one tractor to another as it travels down the length of the country.
