Overview
Jeremy Wright MP is looking for a Senior Parliamentary Assistant to join his hard-working and dedicated team. The successful candidate will work closely with established team members to provide a high level of service to the constituents Jeremy serves. They will be based in the constituency office in Kenilworth. This is a Fixed Term – 1 Year (Maternity Cover) contract.
Skills
The Senior Parliamentary Assistant will have oversight of Jeremy’s team, which is based across two offices in Kenilworth and Westminster. As part of this, they will manage a large and varied inbox. The vast majority of our work is computer based and so strong IT skills are essential.
The successful candidate will have ownership of the MPs diary. They will arrange and attend regular visits and meetings with the MP in the local area. They will need to be extremely organised and efficient with excellent attention to detail. Tasks will need to be juggled effectively and deadlines met.
Casework is an integral part of the role. The successful candidate will deal directly with constituents and stakeholders across a broad range of subjects, including dealing with complex queries and complaints. They will attend regular surgery appointments with the MP, including on some Saturday mornings (to be agreed in advance). Empathy and exceptional communication and drafting skills will be required. Discretion is essential.
It will be important to have or develop excellent local knowledge and an understanding of the constituency area. The successful candidate will ensure that the Member is accurately informed on key local issues, as well as monitor and facilitate media and social media coverage.
Common sense, sound judgment and the ability to work on your own initiative are key. We are a small team and so flexibility, a ‘can do’ attitude and a sense of humour are a must.
We are looking for someone who can ‘hit the ground running’. Previous experience both inside and outside of Parliament is valued.

- Interviews will take place in Kenilworth on Friday 10 January 2020.
- Candidates will be asked to complete a written exercise as part of the interview process.
- The preferred start date is Monday 3 February 2020.
