On Saturday night, my family and I went along to Kenilworth Round Table's annual Bonfire Extravaganza at Kenilworth Castle. Despite the chilly temperatures, there was a fantastic turn out and it was a fantastic display.
This was the 27th year that the Round Table has organised the event and it is going from strength to strength. It is now Warwickshire’s premier fireworks display and people come from far and wide to experience the extravaganza, which we are so fortunate to have on our doorstep. It is a wonderful advert for the town and the people who live here that we can put on such a great show.
There was a rush on sales ahead of this years’ event when the Kenilworth display was named as number three in the the top five fireworks displays in the country by Visit England.
Of course, Kenilworth Castle provides a magical backdrop for the display. The wonderful fortress, steeped in history, is a reminder of times gone by and is juxtaposed with modern touches including incredible lighting and chart music.
Crucially, the event raises substantial sums for local good causes and all the funds from the night go back in to our community. Ticket sales this year raised around £30,000 for the charities the Round Table Supports and I congratulate the Round Table for all their hard work.
I would like to join the Round Table in thanking all the residents of Kenilworth for their support, local businesses that sold tickets, the land owners, English Heritage, the local press and all the volunteers who gave up their time to ensure that the event ran smoothly.
