Kenilworth MP, Jeremy Wright, saw a “view fit for a Queen” when he was invited to tour the newly installed viewing platform at Kenilworth Castle.
Guided round by English Heritage Head Curator, Jeremy Ashbee, Mr Wright learnt that the idea was to let visitors experience the views Queen Elizabeth I would have enjoyed when visiting. The platform itself is in the Leicester Building, a section created by the Earl of Leicester in an attempt, some say, to win the hand of the Queen.
With the involvement of local people and the town council, Mr Ashbee explained that English Heritage constructed a platform that blends architecturally with the building, and allows visitors for the first time in 350 years to get a royal perspective from Kenilworth Castle.
Mr Wright said: “It is not just about looking at the castle, but what you can see from the castle. This is great initiative by English Heritage, giving visitors the chance to explore a building of such architectural importance, and to see some fantastic vistas of the countryside. I would definitely recommend a visit.”
