Despite the growing population and the increasing number of calls to both 111 and 999, West Midlands Ambulance Service have been able to maintain response times and improve the service they provide to those in need. At the Warwick Ambulance Hub paramedics receive additional training on what they need to deal with the issues they are facing, based on their own experiences in the field and given by medical professionals like themselves. The launching of the first ever university ambulance service, as part of a partnership with the University of Wolverhampton, has given most crews an extra person to assist on duty, and will help bring some of the brightest and best into service as paramedics in the future.
Despite these improvements, it is important that we only call upon the ambulance service when they are actually needed. 999 should only be used when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk. This way paramedics can focus on getting to and treating those who really need it.
Ambulances no longer just take you to where you can receive vital healthcare; they also bring vital healthcare to you. Thank you to the people working at the Warwick Ambulance Hub, and all paramedics working in our area, for everything you do for us and for sharing your experience with me on my visit.
