I recently visited with Richard Hales, Chairman of the Kenilworth Chamber of Trade, a local business called RepairTech to see the company’s recovery after a devastating fire. In November, RepairTech, one of the UK’s leading IT repair specialists based in Southam, suffered a catastrophic fire that destroyed over 18,000 square feet of its main premises. All test equipment, stock and parts were destroyed as ten fire crews fought to save the building.
Established in 2000 by Kenilworth resident Richard Costello, RepairTech specialises in the repair of consumer electronics for many of the UK’s leading brands, establishing a best in class reputation for the UK. The company is also a significant local employer in my constituency.
During my tour of the facility I saw the enormous damage caused by the fire. Richard Costello explained that once he knew the severity of the situation, he immediately began a disaster recovery plan and set plans in motion to work from their other smaller building whilst seeking further premises to expand.
After only four weeks, RepairTech is operating at 80% pre fire capacity, and by the end of January will be back at 100%. I had the pleasure of speaking with several of Richard’s team as I visited the site and it was clear to me their commitment and flexibility has been second to none. The team has worked around the clock seven days a week in very difficult circumstances, with a proven desire to not only survive the fire but to come out stronger, which is both admirable and impressive.
For a small business to recover after such a devastating event highlights the determination and passion shown by Richard and his team. It also showcases the support offered by the local Chamber of Trade. I was very pleased to visit and to learn about this local success story and I look forward to returning in six months to see their continuing development.
