I share the shock and sadness expressed by people around the world following the terrible fire at Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris.
Far beyond being a world-famous tourist attraction, the cathedral is a place of worship and this week is one of huge significance in the religious calendar. I wish to pay tribute, in particular, to the emergency services for their part in preserving what they could of this iconic national and cultural treasure.
My thoughts are with the people of France.
